Chewing Gum

Is your chewing gum poisoning you?

Make the switch to a healthier gum!

PROBLEM:  If you chew sugarless gum, you are very likely chewing on aspartame and sucralose.  In the scientific community, these harmful additives are widely known to cause minor to severe health complications.  There are only three companies that produce a sugarless gum without the use of aspartame or sucralose.  These gum brands are difficult to find in local health stores and impossible to find at convenience stores.

SOLUTION:  Spry, XyliChew and PUR are the only three brands that provide much healthier sugar free chewing gum.  These brands use only xylitol to sweeten the gum, so they are all aspartame free gum.  Even though these gums are much healthier and safer than all other brands, they are not perfect but they are the best sources for healthy chewing gum.  Read on for details about the three brands.

PROS & CONS

Spry:  contains  titanium dioxide for “natural coloring”.  Other than this one ingredient, I love Spry gum.  Spry also  contains natural flavors, but indicates that the flavor comes from actual plants. I honestly still chew it because it’s my favorite of the three brands and the least expensive.

XyliChew:  contains natural flavor like Spry, but unlike Spry, XyliChew in no way indicates where the flavor comes from.  This may not sound bad, but the fact is natural flavor is usually in no way a natural ingredient unless indicated otherwise.  Also, XyliChew just tastes a little weird to me.  Honestly, it does not taste natural at all.  According to the ingredients, it is still a healthy gum.

PUR: contains natural flavor with no indication of the flavor’s origin.  Other than that, it’s a good tasting healthy gum.  Some of the different flavors come with claims about antioxidants in the gum, do not let that affect your choice between the brands.  It may contain these antioxidants, but not at levels that will affect you in any way.  It’s a good aspartame free gum.
